A CANOLI FOR NONA
Interview:
Bob Huffman, Jr. is a practicing attorney with the firm of Huffman, Landis & Weaks in Troy, Ohio. He graduated from Miami University with a BA in 1985 and received a JD from the University of Dayton in 1988. He lives in Pleasant Hill, Ohio and has two daughters, Natalie and Mary Grace.
Is A Canoli for Nonayour first script? If not, what else have you completed?
Yes. This is the first script that I’ve worked to completion.
Why did you write A Canoli for Nona? And how long did it take you to write it?
I wrote the script because I believe it’s a funny and compelling story. Moreover, it’s a great way to meet girls and its cheaper than therapy. It took me 18 mo to write the script.
Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I take notes before typing, but mostly the process involves me wandering through the fields searching for an original idea.
What inspires you to write?
I’m inspired by the prospect of a libertarian utopia.
What influenced you to enter the Movie Script Contest?
I entered the contest to have my script compared and judged against other scripts.
Do you feel that screenwriting contests are worthwhile for writers and why?
Contests are a great motivator and a mechanism to evaluate your work.
Who is your favorite screenwriter or writer and why?
Woody Allen is my favorite because nothing is sacred and nothing is assumed.
Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Three things: 1. Be original; 2. Be disciplined; 3. Live free or die.
What’s next for you?
I am currently writing a romantic comedy about a political consultant who tangles with a hillbilly princess during a bizarre campaign in Appalachian Ohio.
