THE ERDOS MURDER CASE aka UNRAVELING REIMANN

Interview:

I hold a Master of Arts (MA) in Fiction Film Production from the Northern Film School in Leeds, UK, and a Bachelor (BSc) in Industrial Management from the University of Piraeus, Greece. I have produced three short films so far, one of which I co-wrote.

I live and work in London, UK. I am a freelance 2nd Assistant Director in TV Commercials and am represented by Callbox Communications. I was born originally in Athens, Greece.

Is THE ERDOS MURDER CASE your first script? If not, what else have you completed?

The Erdos Murder Case is actually my second script in order, which by the way has been re-titled “Unraveling Riemann” after a re-write. I have also written a crime/drama thriller titled "Synthesis of a Tragedy" that was a top-25 thriller genre finalist at the 4th annual Page Awards and a semi-finalist at the Write Movies Contest, while I am finishing off my third one, a sci-fi action adventure titled “The Experience Machine”.

Why did you write THE ERDOS MURDER CASE/UNRAVELING REIMANN

I see the screenplay as a closed system of interacting ideas clashing with each other in non-linear ways. The dynamics of such a system are fascinating and they are the main focus of my PhD research.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I have got a great passion about physics, philosophy, epistemology, economics, ethics and bio-ethics, artificial intelligence, futurism and transhumanism – the philosophical movement that examines the possibilities of humans progressing further with the help of technological means.

I got a lot of inspiration from these subjects. When I was younger I used to say that a fictitious world is more fascinating than reality, which I now think is totally wrong!  Reality and the surrounding physical world unfold in such remarkable ways that is sometimes hard to believe. But the hard scientific facts are there. All we need to do is just open our eyes, metaphorically speaking.

What influenced you to enter the Movie Script Contest?

I read some really good reviews in writer’s boards so I thought I should give it a go. Next year I will send all my scripts!

Do you feel that screenwriting contests are worthwhile for writers and why?

The contests to unproduced writers what they lack most – exposure. And to be honest, if you get some really nice placements for your scripts – even though it might not mean much translated to representation or monetary compensation – it does look good on your CV.

Who is your favorite screenwriter or writer and why?

I really do admire writers like Lawrence Kasdan, Akiva Goldsman and Robert Towne – not in this particular order. These guys are of the thinking types.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

With the risk to beat around a dead horse, the secret lies in persistence, determination, the ability to reject rejection, always writing new stuff and always re-writing your old stuff. Always have your work proofread at the end.

What’s next for you?

I’ve got three and a half intensive years ahead of me as I am planning to commence a PhD in Screenwriting. I also want to keep up with the current rhythm of output of two feature-length scripts per year. My fourth script will materialize in a rough draft early next year. Thank you.
